The Char Dhams consisting of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are considered some of the holiest Hindu shrines. These holy places also happens to be the origin of four sacred rivers: River Yamuna from Yamunotri, River Ganges from Gangotri, River Mandakini from Kedarnath and River Alaknanda from Badrinath. It is believed that undertaking a pilgrimage to these four holy places grants the devotees salvation, freeing them from the cycle of rebirth. According to Hindu scripters, every person should visit these holy shrines at least once in a lifetime.
